The Railway, Cheltenham — Samrub Thai

A neighbourhood pub on New Street with craft beer, cider and Samrub Thai cooking: a good central evening pairing for beer and food.

Thai kitchen: Monday–Friday 5pm–9pm; Saturday–Sunday noon–9pm. Bar hours are separate; see The Railway’s official website for the current schedule.
Location: New Street, Cheltenham
The Railway is a neighbourhood pub on New Street with a Thai kitchen run by Samrub. Despite its name, it is not the pub immediately outside Cheltenham Spa station: think of it as a central-town evening stop, with the station and Lansdown Industrial Estate further west.
Why go
This is a useful pairing for people who want an interesting beer and a real dinner in the same place. The pub lists craft beer, local cider and natural wine, while Samrub brings Thai cooking to the kitchen. That gives the evening more character than moving between a generic drinks venue and whichever restaurant has space.
Choose your meal
Use Samrub’s current menu to decide what to order, especially if spice levels or dietary requirements matter. A pub kitchen is not a guarantee that every dish will suit every palate, so ask rather than assuming. For a group dinner, reserve the table and explain whether you are coming chiefly to eat or just for drinks.
When it fits
The Thai kitchen serves dinner during the week and also lunch at weekends. It does not offer a weekday lunch simply because the bar may be open. Put it after a walk around Montpellier or a visit to The Wilson, or use it as the evening meal after a separate afternoon at DEYA.
For a bigger pizza-and-burger group, compare The Bottle of Sauce. For Sri Lankan sharing plates and cocktails, choose The Coconut Tree. The Railway earns its own place through the pub-and-Thai combination.
