Visit website

Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre is a dry slope on Robinswood Hill, useful for a first lesson or a bit of practice before a snow holiday. It offers ski and snowboard tuition as well as recreational sessions, but the latter are for people already able to control their turns and speed. Choose the session for your actual level, not the one that happens to be next on the calendar.

For beginners and families

The centre teaches skiing from age three, with different lesson groups for children, while snowboarding lessons start at age ten and have minimum height and shoe-size requirements. Tubing sessions are available from age four, so a family outing need not mean everyone learning to ski. Private lessons can fill weeks ahead in busy periods.

What to wear

Cover your arms and legs and bring gloves; long socks are sensible too. The centre provides boards, boots and helmets for snowboard lessons, but not clothing. Sessions normally go ahead in rain. Weekends and winter evenings are its busiest times, so check the booking page before heading up the hill rather than arriving expecting a space.
