Dunkertons Park at Dowdeswell is one of the easiest recommendations when you want something relaxed, sociable and a little different from a traditional Cotswold pub. The organic cider producer has turned its Cheltenham base into much more than a shop: there is a large taproom, several independent food traders, regular events and plenty of space to settle in for an afternoon or evening.
Why go
The setting works particularly well for groups because nobody has to agree on one menu. Food options currently range from pizza and tacos to dim sum, Filipino street food, burgers and sweet treats, while the bar centres on Dunkertons’ own organic cider and perry. It feels informal rather than polished, which is part of the appeal.
There is free parking and the site is dog friendly outside ticketed events. Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult, although the taproom becomes 16+ after 8pm.
Make a stop of it
Dunkertons sits on London Road at Dowdeswell, just outside central Cheltenham, so it is particularly handy if you are heading between the town and the eastern Cotswolds. The adjoining shop and deli is also worth a look for cider, British organic produce, cheese and other local-ish provisions to take away.
