Tucked into Sheepscombe valley, this is a proper village pub and a particularly good post-walk stop. The kitchen focuses on familiar, freshly cooked pub dishes and changes its main menu seasonally, with specials and a pie of the week. Dogs are welcome on leads in the bar and garden; two shepherd huts make it possible to stay nearby after dinner.

Booking is by telephone. The pub may close earlier during quiet periods, so check before making a special journey.
